Aden Haji and is currently a junior at the University of Vermont. He is studying anthropology with a minor in human development and family studies. He lives in Burlington but was born and raised in Kenya, Africa. Aden moved to the United States in 2003. Through his experiences and education in western society, he has grown into a huge advocate for youth voice and youth empowerment.
Aden has a driven passion to connect and peer mentor youth so they can experience having a supportive, positive, inspirational role model in their lives. He started the group called “Building Blocks to Success”, sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington who generously lend their building as a location for biweekly meetings. This group provides peer mentorship to youth in the Burlington community.
Aden is the 2016 winner of the Ignite Burlington student speaking contest. We were instantly drawn to his strength of character and leadership. We are excited to hear his story!
