Presentation: It’s the Little Things 

 
Rich Nadworny is principal of Empatico, a design and innovation studio based in Burlington, Vermont. Empatico helps organizations get un-stuck through human-centered design. The process is people centric (think customer obsessed), collaborative and highly creative. Empatico provides both design services and training to organizations.
Rich leads projects for business modeling, customer experience design and workshop training. His clients range from Fortune 500 companies to local Vermont non-profits. He is the Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Dartmouth College’s Dickey Center for International Understanding. His focus is on President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) teaching Mandela Fellows in the summer and East Africans in Nairobi, Kenya in the winter.
He has built innovative digital marketing solutions for clients for almost 20 years. Previously he was a partner at one of northern New England’s largest ad agencies and ran his own digital strategy and marketing agency, Digalicious. In both places he led award-winning innovative digital work.
He is a frequent commentator on Vermont Public Radio (VPR) an innovation columnist at the Burlington Free Press and an ongoing contributor at the Huffington Post.
He has a B.A. from Dartmouth and a M.S. in New Media from Boston University. He studied design and innovation at the California College of Arts.

Eugene Korsunskiy is the Senior Coordinator of Design Initiatives at UVM, where he teaches classes on Design Thinking and Designing Your Life. Before coming to UVM, Eugene taught at Stanford, where he received his MFA in Design 2012. His masters project, called SparkTruck, was a delivery-truck-turned-classroom-on-wheels, filled with maker tools and supplies, which he and his friends drove across the country to teach kids about tinkering, design, and creativity.

Fall’s MUST Attend Event – 5th Annual Ignite Burlington Hosted by Hergenrother Foundation Features Stories of Business Failure and Success

COLCHESTER, VERMONT (July 23, 2015) – Adam Hergenrother and Hergenrother Foundation are hosting the 5th Annual Ignite Burlington on Thursday October 20, 2015 at The Film House at Main Street Landing.

Ignite is an exciting, unconventional event, designed to inspire, educate, and entertain the greater Burlington community.  Ignite events are held in over 100 cities worldwide and are similar to TED’s ”Ideas Worth Spreading.” Ignite events bring people together in an inspiring, mastermind-like forum, where speakers share their passion projects and inspirational success stories for compelling five minutes, respecting Ignite’s acclaimed mantra, ”Enlighten Us, But Make It Quick.”

Registration and networking from 5:30pm-6:30pm.  Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available.  Presentations begin promptly at 6:30pm.

Hergenrother Foundation is currently interviewing entrepreneurs and business and community leaders who are interested in speaking at this year’s Ignite event. To be considered, send an email with a brief bio and information about your presentation topic to hallie@adamhergenrother.com.

Emcee Spotlight | Alex Camelio  

Alex Camelio – Co-Founder & President at Barcode Publicity
 
Alex is a dynamic, engaging and energetic speaker who has presented for groups including, the National Association of Realtors, WCR, NAREB, NAHREP, the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, the New York State Association of Realtors, Triple Play, Vermont Realtors and many more. Upon realizing the impending boom in mobile technology Alex decided to form a company with the core goal of implementing end-to-end mobile marketing strategies focused on specific industries, with real estate as the primary focus.
After graduating from Syracuse University in three years, with degrees in Political Philosophy and Legal Studies, he worked as the Director of Operations for a New York City based tech firm where part of his job was managing enterprise level data centers as well as the supply chain management system for Denso Wave corporation – the original inventor of the QR code. Upon realizing the marketing benefits of the QR code and the impending boom in mobile technology Alex decided to form a company with the core goal of implementing end-to-end mobile marketing strategies focused on specific industries, with real estate as the primary focus. By building a team of industry partners, mobile development experts, and a passionate sales force, Alex created one of the premier mobile technology firms in North America.

Presentation: Unthinking the Nonprofit

Cyrus Patten has served in senior leadership positions at some of Vermont’s most notable nonprofit organizations including Howard Center and Spectrum Youth & Family Services. He is currently serving as Campaign for Vermont’s first Executive Director.

He earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Colorado State University and is a doctoral candidate in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Vermont where he is studying alternative models for funding nonprofit organizations.

Cyrus thrives in challenging and dynamic environments, breaking convention and seeking new ways to solve old problems.

Presentation: It’s Never too Late to be What You Might Have Been

Janice Shade is an entrepreneur and brand strategist with 20 years experience in strategic planning, marketing, sales and financial analysis.  Her specialty is the consumer packaged goods industry, with particular emphasis on social ventures in the natural products segment.  She gained valuable formal training with companies such as Procter & Gamble, Welch’s, and Seventh Generation before launching her own entrepreneurial ventures in 2006.
She considers herself a “pathological optimist” and sees obstacles as opportunities.  Creating order from chaos in the pursuit of environmental and social improvement is her passion.  Her entrepreneurial ventures include Local First Vermont, TrueBody Products and Milk Money, Vermont’s first “invest local” equity crowdfunding platform.
Janice is an avid skier and hiker, rookie triathlete, youth soccer coach and experimental cook. She lives in Jericho, VT, with her husband and two daughters.

Presentation: The Elevation of Agitation: Empowering Voices & Remembering Simple Truths

James is the Executive Director of Big Heavy World. He has directed Vermont’s Burlington-based independent, volunteer-staffed music office for 20 years, generating partnerships and channeling enthusiasm that supports Vermont-made music of every kind & stage of development. Through a music archive, record label, community radio station, music shop, events, and more, and in collaboration with community partners, he has brought together the resources that provide Vermont with a music office where it would not have one otherwise. James has championed inclusion and respect for diversity, and built a widely recognized engine of support for regional music based on these values. He has been visionary in recognizing the potential of combining widely different community stakeholder interests into collaborations that satisfy the goals of all involved.

James is a cultural heritage advisory board member of the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership (Vermont’s National Heritage Area) and serves on the King Street Neighborhood Revitalization Corp. He also directs the Youth Safety Council of Vermont and coordinates the Distracted Driving Task Force of the Vermont Highway Safety Alliance and its Education/Outreach & Marketing Focus Group.
