Presentation: Failure, Framing, and the Phoenix Process
Stephanie Hainley is the Chief Operating Officer and a senior project manager at White + Burke Real Estate Investment Advisors, running the firm day-to-day and acting as a “fixer” of real estate issues for business and property owners statewide.
Stephanie also serves on the board of Main Street Alliance of Vermont, serves on the board of Leadership Champlain, is a Director of the Northfield Savings Bank Foundation board, and has most recently joined the Board of Trustees of Champlain College. She serves as a corporator to Northfield Mutual Holding Company, sits on the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Public Policy Committee and Advocacy Task Force, and is the immediate past president of Burlington Business & Professional Women (BPW). Stephanie received her BA in sociology from UVM and MBA from Champlain College. She is passionate about economic development, policy supporting gender equality, and developing strong workplace culture. Stephanie enjoys dancing, hiking & cooking, lives in Burlington’s South End, and is learning to golf and snowboard (not at the same time).

Ignite Speaker Spotlight | KAREN NEWMAN

Presentation:  Failing Forward! 
 
Karen Newman is an inspirational speaker, world record-breaking triathlete, dietitian, author and survivor of two life-threatening diseases. Her real-life stories have been giving people hope: helping free them from the bondage of shame, secrets and addictions; inspiring them to be authentic, to dream big and risk living the life they were meant to live. Karen has been featured in numerous publications and shows, and has lectured all over the country. She has also received many awards, such as the USA Triathlon’s “Most Inspirational Comeback Award”, as well as the Connecticut Sportswriter’s Association’s “Courage Award,” and American Cancer Society’s “Determination Champion” for her tireless charitable efforts.
Karen is the author of a book entitled Just Three Words – a gripping story about the challenging experiences that brought her to her knees and then to her life’s purpose, and the miracles that kept her alive and winning athletic events around the world. Her book is available on Amazon.com as well as Barnesandnoble.com.
Karen is an eight-time All-American triathlete and was the 2012 Silver Medalist and top American finisher at the Age Group Triathlon World Championships in Auckland, NZ; this, despite enduring over four years of cancer treatments throughout her training. She followed in 2013 as a gold medalist for the United States in both triathlon and the 5k road race at the National Senior Games in Cleveland, OH, and then repeated with golds in both events at the Huntsman World Senior Games, while breaking the world record in the women’s triathlon there.
As a triathlon coach and Registered Dietitian with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition, Karen has had a long career educating and encouraging people in health and nutrition, as well as on the track. A University of Vermont alumnae, she married her college sweetheart, Peter, and together they have three amazing boys – Stetson, Chase and Trent-who inspired her to survive and thrive.

Ignite Speaker Spotlight | MITCHEL DURFEE

Presentation:  Charlie Mike
 
Mitch Durfee is a Realtor at KW Vermont, the CEO and founder of Grunts Move Junk, Green Rock Investments, and Online Startup Box. He garnered his real estate experience at Foulsham Farms Real Estate and Keller Williams in Vermont. A veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves, Mitch Durfee served his country in Korea, Iraq, Colorado Springs and Vermont from 2003-2008. Mitch again served overseas, as a government contractor in Kuwait and Afghanistan, from 2012-2013. He earned his Associate’s Degree from Saint Leo University. While pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in business management from Champlain College, Mitch launched several businesses that ultimately led to him leaving college to focus his energy toward growth.

Ignite Speaker Spotlight | CARL DUDLEY, JR.

Carl Dudley, Jr. is from Plainfield, New Jersey, where he lived until 2004. In the summer of 2004, he moved to Newport News, Virginia, with his Aunt and Uncle after he had spent the last 3 years of his life homeless. Carl attended Norwich University, where he majored in construction management and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. Carl left Norwich after just one year and joined the Air National Guard as a cardiopulmonary laboratory technologist and completed his Associate’s Degree in Cardiopulmonary Laboratory Technology in 2015 from the Community College of the Air Force. Carl is now pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy with a concentration in Ethics from American Military University.
In 2014, Carl started a volunteer organization called Airmen Breaking Bread at the Vermont Air National Guard, stemming from the Justice Mentoring Program founded at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio.  A year later he met the founder of Flex Your Face, Ryan Esbjerg, through his brother, Jake, whom he went to college with at Norwich. Carl quickly bought into his mission to spread positivity and has been a brand ambassador for Flex Your Face for the last year.

5th Annual Ignite Burlington

ignite-burlington-bannerCOLCHESTER, VERMONT (September 20, 2016) – Adam Hergenrother and Hergenrother Foundation are hosting the 5th Annual Ignite Burlington on Thursday October 20, 2016 at The Film House at Main Street Landing.

Ignite is an exciting, unconventional event, designed to inspire, educate, and entertain the greater Burlington community.  Ignite events are held in over 100 cities worldwide and are similar to TED’s” Ideas Worth Spreading.” Ignite events bring people together in an inspiring, mastermind-like forum, where speakers share their passion projects and inspirational success stories for compelling five minutes, respecting Ignite’s acclaimed mantra,” Enlighten Us, But Make It Quick.”

Registration and networking from 5:30pm-6:30pm.  Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available.  Presentations begin promptly at 6:30pm.

This year, we have decided to get the younger generation more actively involved in this event by holding a speaking contest. We will be asking students to submit a 3-5-minute video to us about a failure in their life and the winner will be invited to speak at Ignite Burlington 2016.

Ann Zuccardy offers candid, witty conversation about life’s challenging moments and getting through them with creativity and humor. She provides insights gleaned from her personal struggle after a traumatic brain injury (TBI) changed her life.

A professional writer for nearly three decades, Ann writes for technical publications, social media, and corporate communications departments. Her work appears in Press Pause Moments: Essays about Life Transitions by Women Writers and in magazines and corporate newsletters. She is writing a book about her TBI experience: A Brain Rebooted: Creating New Pathways for Life and Business.

Ann shares her story about the trials and tribulations of reinventing her life after her injury and  discovering hidden surprises about intelligence and creativity.

Hergenrother Foundation is proud to host the second annual Ignite Burlington on Thursday October 10 at The Film House at Main Street Landing.

Ignite Burlington is an evening event of presentations designed to inspire, educate, and entertain the greater Burlington community.  In one evening, attendees will hear dynamic speakers from our communities talk about their passion projects and inspirational success stories.

This year we’re proud to bring you ten speakers who are making a significant impact on a local and national level, and who are sure to inspire you to take action and be the change you wish to see in the world!

The evening begins with a networking and cocktail hour from 4:45pm-6:00pm.  The presentations will begin at 6:00pm.
